President Murmu announces major gubernatorial appointments: Lakshman Prasad Acharya becomes Assam Governor with additional charge of Manipur, Gulab Chand Kataria replaces Banwarilal Purohit as Punjab Governor.

In a significant reshuffle of gubernatorial appointments announced on July 27, President Droupadi Murmu has made several key changes. Lakshman Prasad Acharya has been appointed as the Governor of Assam, taking over from Gulab Chand Kataria, and he has also been given the additional charge of Manipur. This reshuffle also saw Gulab Chand Kataria replace Banwarilal Purohit as the Governor of Punjab. Purohit’s resignation from the positions of Governor of Punjab and Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh has been accepted by President Murmu.
Lakshman Prasad Acharya, who was serving as the Governor of Sikkim, will now oversee the state of Assam and manage responsibilities in Manipur. This dual role reflects the trust and confidence placed in him to handle the affairs of these two northeastern states effectively.
Gulab Chand Kataria, the outgoing Governor of Assam, has been reassigned as the Governor of Punjab and the Administrator of Chandigarh. Kataria’s experience and leadership are expected to bring stability and progress to Punjab.
